Louise Duggan is a Chichester-based multidisciplinary artist creating bold, intuitive mixed media works that explore identity, transformation, and emotion. After earning her BA (Hons) in Art and Design, she built a successful career in high-end interior design before founding Ophelia Art Consultancy, sourcing artwork for international hotel brands across the Middle East.
Her 23 years in Dubai included major commissions, including work for the iconic Burj Al Arab. Deeply influenced by her African childhood and mixed heritage, Louise’s work is instinctive and layered—combining colour, texture, and symbolism drawn from memory and feeling.
She is also the founder of Sussex Creative Art Network CIC, and her work has been featured in Arabian Vogue, World of Interiors, and international exhibitions.

In 2024, artist Louise Duggan founded the Sussex Creative Art Network CIC to connect, inspire, and support the arts across the county. Under this umbrella, she launched Chichester Creative Art Network (Chichester CAN) in her hometown.
Chichester CAN was created to bring artists, creatives, and the wider community together — celebrating diverse practices, empowering local voices, and championing creative expression across Chichester and beyond. Our mission is to foster an inclusive, visible, and vibrant arts scene, rooted in connection, creativity, and community. We aim to build a dedicated hub for workshops, exhibitions, and artistic collaboration.
In the same year, we took on the much-loved Worthing Portrait Artist of the Year competition. With great respect for its history, we carried the event forward into a new chapter, opening it up to the whole of Sussex. In 2025, we hosted our inaugural Sussex Portrait Artist of the Year competition — a sold-out success that brought together artists and audiences in celebration of portraiture.
Looking ahead, we are committed to growing Sussex Portrait Artist of the Year as our flagship annual fundraising event. The competition not only creates an exciting platform for artists but also enables us to support wider projects that showcase the extraordinary creative talent within our community.
The Sussex Portrait Artist of the Year Competition comprises of an Open Call where any Sussex based artist can submit their work to our esteemed panel of judges. Once the Open Call has closed, all entries will be judged & a group of 9 finalists will be revealed. These finalists will then go head to head in a 4 hour live painting competition with a celebrity sitter with the winner decided by a panel of judges at The Venue, Worthing. Find out more about the 2025 artists here
The Venue, Worthing will remain the home of the portrait competition for the foreseeable future. A dynamic entertainment space housed inside a gorgeous grade II listed building creates a dramtic setting for such an event.
